France recorded a 1.0% rise in overnight stays in collective accommodation in the second quarter of 2026, with business tourism growing for the first time since the health crisis and coastal hotels seeing the strongest gains.

According to INSEE, hotels in France recorded 61.1 million overnight stays in the second quarter of 2026, up 1.4% year-on-year, while holiday and other short-stay accommodation saw a slight decline (-0.5%). Growth was concentrated in higher-category hotels (3-star +3.7%, 4-5 star +4.2%), while unclassified hotels fell sharply (-12.0%). Coastal hotels performed particularly well (+4.0% overall, with non-resident stays up 8.8%), while mountain areas were roughly flat. Business tourism rose 6% year-on-year, its first increase since the pandemic, though it remains 32.7% below 2019 levels. Among foreign visitors, growth came mainly from Belgium (+4.6%), the Netherlands (+4.4%), Germany (+2.7%) and the United States (+8.0%), while UK visitor nights fell 2.7% and Asia-Oceania nights dropped 12.0%.
