According to Statistics Denmark, the country recorded 26 million tourist overnight stays in the first half of 2026, up 565,000 (2%) on the same period in 2025, with foreign visitors accounting for the bulk of the increase (+505,000) compared with domestic tourists (+60,000). Hotels saw the largest absolute gain (nearly half a million more stays, +5%), while holiday centres grew fastest in percentage terms (+9%); hostels declined 4%. June itself was down 3% year-on-year, partly attributed to the timing of Whitsun, with the Capital Region the only area to grow. Forward-booking data for holiday cottages point to a strong July, with bookings up 8% on last year, driven by a 12% rise among German tourists linked to earlier school summer holidays in several German states, alongside a corresponding softening expected in August bookings.
