Family travel drives Croatia's July tourism, with under-14s the biggest age group

According to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, commercial accommodation recorded 4.5 million tourist arrivals and 25.3 million nights in July 2026, with foreign tourists accounting for 92.7% of all nights. Germany remained the top foreign market (4.4 million nights), followed by Slovenia, with both nationalities concentrated heavily in Istria. Holiday and other short-stay accommodation (rentals, apartments) took the largest share of nights (56.4%), ahead of campsites (23.7%) and hotels (17.9%). Istria was the leading county (7.5 million nights), and Rovinj overtook other destinations as the most popular for foreign visitors, while Crikvenica remained the top domestic destination. Notably, tourists aged under 14 accounted for the largest share of nights of any age group (23.3%), ahead of the 35-44 bracket, pointing to strong family travel demand. For the first seven months of 2026, arrivals rose 1.4% and nights 0.8% compared with the same period in 2025.
