Maltese residents took 7.6% more trips abroad in the first half of 2026

According to Malta’s National Statistics Office, residents made 214,123 outbound tourist trips in the second quarter of 2026, up 2.5% year-on-year, while nights spent abroad fell slightly by 0.5% to 1.5 million. Italy accounted for 37.7% of all trips, and more than half of overnight stays were in non-rented accommodation.

Across the first half of 2026, outbound trips rose to almost 420,000, 7.6% more than a year earlier. Total expenditure increased by 2.9% to €388.5 million, while average spending per traveller declined slightly to €925.
