In 2023, Istat reported 42.4 million same-day trips in Italy. Leisure, recreation, and spare time were the primary reasons for these trips, accounting for 64.0% of the total. Visiting relatives and friends was the second most common purpose at 15.5%. Business trips were the least popular. Compared to previous years, the leading purposes for same-day visits remained consistent, while religious reasons and pilgrimages were the least common motivations.
