The European Climate Risk Assessment is also highly relevant for the tourism sector. It shows that climate change is already affecting tourism in Europe through heat waves, reduced snow cover, water scarcity, and extreme weather events.

The European Climate Risk Assessment (EEA Report 01/2024) identifies 36 major climate risks in Europe, including risks that directly affect tourism. As a sector strongly dependent on weather, natural resources, water, and infrastructure, tourism is especially exposed to climate change.
The report is important for tourism because it highlights threats such as reduced snow reliability for winter destinations, heat stress in summer tourism areas, water scarcity, wildfires, and damage to tourism infrastructure caused by extreme events. It also shows that climate change may shift tourism demand, with some cooler regions potentially becoming more attractive.
For the tourism sector, the assessment confirms that adaptation is necessary and must be linked with other areas such as nature protection, water management, and regional planning. It is therefore an important knowledge source for building more resilient and sustainable tourism in Europe.
