The French Directorate General for Enterprise (DGE) has published a practical toolbox aimed at supporting and inspiring stakeholders in integrating residents into tourism strategies, while respecting the unique characteristics of each region. The toolbox includes a general fact sheet outlining key methodological principles, along with a series of practical sheets highlighting proven good practices.
These practical sheets present two main approaches:
- Residents as active contributors to local tourism strategies, illustrated through examples such as:
- The Tourism Agora of Bordeaux Métropole
- The micro-training programme by Cœur-de-Sud-Ouest Tourisme
- Saint-Nazaire Renversante’s “calls for representation” for promotional visuals
- The collaborative “Residents’ Favourites” map by Honfleur Terre d'Estuaire
- Residents as the target audience of tourism initiatives, with examples including:
- The “La Locale” map by the Entre-Deux-Mers Tourist Office
- Initiatives by the Honfleur Terre d'Estuaire and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue Tourist Offices
- Several other featured practices
All materials are freely accessible via the link provided on the left-hand side of the platform (The original piece available only in French).
