The report "Environmental Performance by Accommodations in Portugal 2022: Good Practices at Hotels, Holiday Villages, and Tourist Apartments" by Nuno Lima, published in February 2023, reveals that 68% of tourism establishments in Portugal have implemented water efficiency measures, such as changing sheets upon guest request and using flush toilets with differentiated loads. Certification was achieved by 11% of establishments, primarily for quality management and accessibility. The regions of Madeira and Azores led in energy efficiency, waste management, and environmental distinctions.
