To better understand how destinations and tourism stakeholders worldwide are responding to climate change, mascontour conducted a global survey in cooperation with ITB Berlin. The resulting white paper, “Climate Adaptation in Tourism – From Risk Awareness to Resilient Tourism Management,” provides valuable insights from 172 tourism professionals representing 60 countries across all continents.

Climate change is no longer a distant challenge for tourism. According to a new global survey conducted by mascontour in cooperation with ITB Berlin, nearly two-thirds of tourism stakeholders expect climate impacts to become significant or very significant for their destinations within the next five years.
The new white paper “Climate Adaptation in Tourism – From Risk Awareness to Resilient Tourism Management” presents insights from 172 tourism stakeholders across 60 countries and explores how destinations, businesses, policymakers and development organisations are responding to climate risks.
The findings reveal a clear adaptation gap: while awareness of climate risks is growing, implementation of effective adaptation measures often remains fragmented, underfunded and insufficiently coordinated.
The publication provides:
• Global insights into climate risks affecting tourism destinations
• Analysis of adaptation measures, barriers and support needs
• Practical recommendations for destinations, tourism businesses and policymakers
• A resilience-based framework for strengthening climate adaptation in tourism
