In May 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) introduced a new toolkit designed to help governments promote safer active travel. The toolkit outlines seven strategic policy options that countries can adopt to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists of all ages and abilities. Its aim is to support and encourage walking and cycling—whether for transport or recreation—across the globe. By providing practical, evidence-based guidance, the toolkit serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, urban planners, health professionals, and civil society, helping to bridge existing gaps in active mobility infrastructure and planning.
