This ongoing podcast series brings together policymakers, destination managers and researchers to talk through how data is changing the way tourism gets planned and managed. Each episode looks at a different angle, from EU policy to overtourism to carbon footprint tracking, grounded in real destinations rather than abstract theory.

The series has covered ground ranging from the European Commission's own thinking on tourism data, to how Seville manages visitor flows as a mature destination, to practical work on measuring carbon footprints without waiting for perfect data. Guests so far include a Policy Officer for Tourism at the European Commission, the General Manager of Tourism for the Balearic Islands Government, and DMO staff and researchers working directly on the ground in destinations such as Bohinj and Seville.

What ties the episodes together is a focus on concrete problems, seasonality, fragmented data, overtourism, sustainability reporting, rather than data sharing as an abstract concept. For destination managers and public authorities trying to figure out where to start with data, the series works as an accessible, low-jargon way in, before going into more technical material.
