FuTourAlliance, a four-year EU-funded project, officially launched with a kickoff meeting in Brussels this February. Backed by €4 million in Erasmus+ funding, it brings together industry, education and policy partners from 12 countries to tackle skills shortages holding back the tourism sector's digital and green transition.

FuTourAlliance, short for Future Tourism Skills Alliance for a Resilient and Innovative Europe, kicked off in Brussels on 11-12 February 2026, bringing together a broad partnership of hospitality associations, vocational training providers, universities and tourism bodies for two days of planning across the project's work packages. Running until 2029 with a budget of roughly €4 million under the Erasmus+ Blueprint framework, the project builds on earlier initiatives such as PANTOUR and TourX, and aims to map skills gaps, update occupational profiles and qualification frameworks, and pilot modular, work-based training curricula focused on digital, green and inclusive competencies, including AI, robotics and emerging tourism job roles.

The partnership spans Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain, and includes hospitality associations such as HOTREC and CEHAT, rural tourism network RURALTOUR, vocational training bodies, and the TUI Care Foundation, among others. The project is framed as a concrete contribution to the EU's Pact for Skills in Tourism and the European Tourism Agenda 2030, aiming to leave behind a lasting Sectoral Skills Alliance governance structure once EU funding ends.
