Have you ever tried cibulynė, spirginė or porridge with mirkal, surrounded by the calm of Samogitian farms and legendary stones? “Kūlio kelias” is a newly created gastronomic route stretching from Kretinga to Skuodas, where flavours, people and cultural heritage are intertwined. It is one of the outcomes of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region project BASCIL, which promotes sustainable culinary tourism across the Baltic region.
Along this route, visitors can meet the “Bread Lady” Vida Viskontienė in Nasrėnai, who shares authentic Samogitian dishes and the tradition of bread baking; beekeeper Petras Pušinskas in Mosėdis, who introduces the world of honey and aromatic plants; winemaker Žydrūnas Drazdas in Darbėnai, producing fruit and berry wines rooted in family tradition; and farmer Tadas Mockus in Klaipėda district, who offers insights into sustainable agriculture and healthy nutrition.
The name “Kūlio kelias” refers to the region’s famous boulders, kūliai – from the impressive Barstyčiai stone to the open-air Mosėdis Stone Museum. These natural giants not only define the landscape but also carry symbolic meaning in Samogitian culture.
An interactive map makes the route easy to follow, with each stop offering authentic experiences: Map of Kūlio kelias. A short video also allows you to feel the atmosphere of the route and get to know its people and places even before visiting.
For more details, see the Interreg Baltic Sea Region project BASCIL page: interreg-baltic.eu/project/bascil or the Lithuanian presentation of the route: Kūlio kelias: gastronominis ir kultūrinis nuotykis Žemaitijoje.
Please note that the detailed information and descriptions are available in Lithuanian only.
