Cultural tourism plays a vital role in strengthening local economies, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering a sense of community identity. The IMPACTOUR project, funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme (Grant Agreement No. 870747), brought together 15 pilot sites across Europe to test new ways of assessing the economic and social impact of cultural tourism. Its final conference took place in Madrid on 20–21 June 2023, gathering experts, researchers, and practitioners to share findings and future perspectives.

Although the project has formally concluded, its results remain highly relevant for tourism stakeholders today—particularly those working in cultural tourism, heritage management, sustainable tourism planning, and regional development. By offering methodologies and tools to analyse visitor flows, cultural assets, and local benefits, IMPACTOUR continues to support decision-makers in diversifying and strengthening cultural tourism strategies.

We encourage you to explore the project results and read the latest news here.
