Mallorca will manage €113.8 million from the Balearic Sustainable Tourism Tax in 2026 and 2027, 63.88% of the funds distributed by island. The money will finance 33 projects by the island council and municipalities, with water networks, heritage and public spaces as the main priorities.

Seven of the projects are run by the Consell de Mallorca and focus on conserving historic and cultural heritage, communicating natural heritage and preserving landscape, including active management of the Serra de Tramuntana’s mosaic landscape. The other 26 are municipal projects in 13 municipalities and centre on renewing water networks, recovering heritage and upgrading public spaces. A further 17 regional actions with an impact on the island cover water management, biodiversity, sustainable mobility and tourism quality.

The plan is a concrete example of how a destination that is under visitor pressure channels tourism tax revenue into infrastructure and heritage used by residents as well as visitors. Which of these projects deliver tangible benefits for local communities will be a useful test of the tax’s purpose.
