Pomorskie Tourist Board has announced its membership in the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), a globally respected body that develops and governs the leading standards for sustainable travel and tourism. GSTC is known for its rigorous criteria, accreditation programmes and global network of destinations, companies and organisations committed to responsible tourism.
For PROT and the Pomorskie region, this membership signifies a strategic commitment to integrating sustainability, transparency, and quality into tourism development. It reflects the organisation’s ambition to increase the region’s competitiveness, support local communities and reduce environmental impact while enhancing visitor experience. By joining GSTC, PROT gains access to a global reference framework, an international network of best practices, training opportunities and certification pathways.
The benefits of membership include access to the GSTC Destination, Industry and MICE criteria, which help destinations and businesses measure and improve their sustainable performance. This step supports PROT’s ongoing initiatives, including webinars on global criteria and certification, sustainability education for local tourism stakeholders, and international projects such as the coordination of the EUSBSR Policy Area Toruism or Interreg BSR CliNeDest and BASCIL, which aim to drive transformation in the Baltic Sea Region.
For tourism professionals and stakeholders in Pomorskie, GSTC membership provides a credible platform to differentiate the region in a competitive market, signal a commitment to sustainability to international partners, and prepare for the growing demand from travellers for responsible destinations. It also aligns with wider European and macro-regional tourism strategies that emphasise greener growth, community benefits and destination stewardship.
