Candela Technology AB reports that Stockholm is significantly expanding its electric hydrofoil ferry service, Nova, reducing travel time between Tappström (Ekerö Centre) and Stockholm City Hall to just 30 minutes—compared to the hour-long journey by car or bus.

The Candela P-12, which uses electric propulsion and hydrofoil technology, has been part of Stockholm’s public transport system since autumn 2024. It resumed operations on 15 April 2025 following a winter break due to frozen waters. This initiative marks a major step forward in electrifying water-based public transport and reducing emissions across the Stockholm archipelago.
