The Balearic Islands Tourism Agency ran a series of webinars and a public conference in Ibiza this September to promote the island's Phoenician and underwater archaeological heritage. The initiative, part of the EU-funded ECOSEAROUTES project, targets international travel agents and diving operators as new audiences for the island beyond its beach-tourism image.

Led by underwater archaeologist Marcus Heinrich Hermanns, the programme included three online sessions, in German and English for travel agents from key source markets and a dedicated session for scuba and diving enterprises, plus a public conference in Santa Eulària des Riu open to residents. During the welcome session for international travel agents, Miguel Rosselló, the Balearic Islands' Director General of Tourism, highlighted sustainability investments funded through the region's Sustainable Tourism Tax, while AETIB director Pere Joan Planas said the initiative directly supports preserving fragile island environments while diversifying the tourism offer.
AETIB developed the programme in collaboration with the Ibiza Island Council, Ibiza Tourism Promotion, the Chamber of Commerce of Ibiza and Formentera, the Archaeological Museum of Ibiza and Formentera, and the culture and tourism departments of several municipal councils, reflecting the kind of cross-institutional coordination that heritage-based tourism diversification typically requires to reach specialised trade audiences rather than general leisure travellers alone.
