Running from August 2023 to July 2025, the BAB project focused on enhancing cycling tourism across Estonia, Finland, Poland, and Sweden by helping regions improve route quality, develop services tailored to cyclists, and promote sustainable tourism opportunities. Although the project has now concluded, its results remain publicly available for stakeholders across Europe.

One of the key outcomes is the guide "Cycling Tourism: Opportunities for Regional Development in the Baltic Sea Region," which includes a self-assessment tool based on EuroVelo certification standards. Designed for local and regional authorities, DMOs and cycling tourism developers, it helps destinations analyse their capacity, plan improvements and learn from best practices across the Baltic Sea Region.

The project also delivered the publication Pedalling Progress: Advancing Cycling Tourism Along the EuroVelo Baltic Sea Cycle Route. This report summarises progress made during the BAB initiative, highlights recent developments along EuroVelo 10, and outlines future needs and strategic directions for strengthening cycling tourism as part of sustainable mobility and regional development. It will be beneficial to policymakers, NGOs, transport providers and tourism entrepreneurs working to unlock the economic and environmental benefits of cycling.

Cycling tourism continues to grow across Europe, and BAB’s legacy supports destinations aiming to attract more visitors in a low-carbon, healthy and community-beneficial way. The insights collected from across the Baltic Sea Region offer a solid foundation for future investments into the EuroVelo network and the development of cycling-friendly services that can boost year-round tourism and rural economies.
