Kumasi Drinks, based in Amsterdam, was one of the 12 finalists of The Foodies 2026, announced at SIAL Paris on 18 October 2026. The company makes soft drinks from cocoa fruit juice, a by-product that normally goes unused, and reports that farmers in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire earn up to 30% additional income per kilogram sold.

Only the beans of the cocoa fruit are normally used for chocolate, and the juice of the surrounding pulp is lost. Kumasi collects it and uses it in drinks and, according to the company, is working on applications in chocolate fillings, dairy, ice cream and other products. It reports activity in Ecuador, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire and a factory in Côte d’Ivoire expected to produce 300,000 litres in 2026.

The Foodies, an initiative of FoodDrinkEurope supported by the European Commission, recognises sustainability achievements among SMEs in Europe’s agri-food sector.
