EFFOP (Marine Nutrients Europe) reports its continued commitment in 2025 to the EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices. The association actively promotes the Code among its members and supports sustainable marine ingredient production through knowledge sharing, policy engagement, and industry collaboration.
Key achievements in 2025 include:
Promoting the sustainability benefits of marine ingredients, including their low carbon footprint compared with several alternative protein and oil sources.
Supporting the development of Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) profiles for European fishmeal and fish oil in cooperation with IFFO and the Global Feed LCA Institute.
Advancing circular economy initiatives, with around 40% of raw materials originating from fish processing by-products and participation in an industry-wide feed circularity catalogue.
Developing guidance for food-grade fish oil production and advocating for science-based fisheries management and sustainable sourcing.
Engaging extensively with EU institutions, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and advisory councils on topics such as sustainable food systems, fisheries policy, circular economy legislation, and aquaculture.
Strengthening cooperation with organizations including FEFAC, IFFO, MSC, ASC, MarinTrust, and NAPA to promote sustainability, responsible resource management, and evidence-based policymaking.
