The international symposium “The Farmers of Tomorrow: Skills, Jobs and Renewal Pathways in Times of Uncertainty” will take place on 30 September and 1 October 2026 in Zaragoza, Spain, in a hybrid format. The event will examine the structural factors influencing entry into agriculture and long-term participation in the sector, with a strong focus on how farming can remain attractive and sustainable in changing economic and social conditions.

The symposium will look at agricultural renewal not only as a demographic issue, but as a process shaped by profitability, income stability, access to land and finance, production costs, working conditions, and public policy. It will also consider innovation in a broad way, including organisational, business, and governance models that can improve the viability of farming and agri-food activities.

A strong territorial perspective will run through the discussions, highlighting the importance of rural services, infrastructure, housing, education, and quality of life in shaping agricultural careers. Gender and generational aspects will also be addressed, with attention to how women and young people experience opportunities and barriers in the sector. The symposium will bring together evidence and perspectives from across the Mediterranean to support better policy, practice, and innovation.
