World wheat prices rose 2.6% in August, partly reflecting weaker EU production prospects after hot, dry weather, while global sugar prices jumped 11.9% amid expectations of lower EU sugar beet yields. Tightening EU milk supplies pushed the dairy index up 2.3%, and high temperatures that slowed animal growth in the EU contributed to higher pig meat quotations.

Separately, FAO's Cereal Supply and Demand Brief forecasts 2026 global cereal production at 2,980 million tonnes, down 2% from 2025 but still the second-largest harvest on record, with world cereal stocks-to-use easing slightly to 31.6%.
