Sustainable fishing levels rose from 50% to 63%, but fish stocks are not recovering fast enough. EU fishers face ageing fleets, rising costs, and poor implementation of key rules by Member States remains the main obstacle. The findings will feed into the Commission's upcoming 2040 Vision for Fisheries and Aquaculture.

The evaluation will now serve as the foundation for the Commission's upcoming 2040 Vision for Fisheries and Aquaculture, a 15-year strategic framework set to guide future policy reforms.
