The completed project "Tourism Potential of Railway Services," which ran from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2016, aimed to harness the synergies between railway services and tourism development. Directed by Ignacio Barron de Angoiti and managed by Marc Guigon, TOPRAIL focused on fostering partnerships between railways, local tourism industries, and other transport sectors, such as ferry services. The initiative explored various forms of rail tourism, from cruise trains like the Orient Express to night trains that serve as convenient travel options. By highlighting best practices and assessing their applicability to other contexts, the project sought to promote a positive image of rail transport and boost regional tourism.
