On 20 May 2025, European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen hosted a high-level stakeholder dialogue in Brussels, reaffirming energy efficiency as a cornerstone of the EU’s energy transition. Organised by the Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER), the event convened policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to align strategic goals with actionable pathways. Commissioner Jørgensen stressed that energy efficiency must be seen not as a technical fix but as a strategic imperative for energy independence, affordability, competitiveness and security.

Key speakers, including Mechthild Wörsdörfer, Deputy Director-General at DG ENER, Polish Vice-Minister Krzysztof Bolesta, MEP Niels Fuglsang, and Bertrand Piccard, CEO of the Solar Impulse Foundation, bridged policy with practice. Roundtables explored barriers and best practices, highlighting policy predictability, cost challenges, and the essential role of SMEs in the renovation wave. Success stories from Rockwool, Schneider Electric, Siemens Energy, and Danfoss illustrated practical solutions through smart manufacturing and integrated systems.

The European Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition, which held a parallel meeting, announced plans to broaden participation. In her closing remarks, Rosalinde van der Vlies, Director at DG ENER underlined the importance of elevating energy efficiency to a central EU policy. The event marked a decisive push to turn energy-efficient renovation into a leading instrument of decarbonisation and resilience.
