The picture shows construction workers in high-visibility clothing and hard hats spreading and leveling freshly poured concrete on a construction site.

The Aragón Regional Council of the Construction Labour Foundation (FLC) has completed a pilot course on the airtightness of the building envelope. The course is part of Construction Blueprint 2, the Strategic Alliance for Skills Development under the Pact for Skills in the construction sector.

Eleven students took part in the pilot, which ended on 9 October in Villanueva de Gállego. Working in teams, they first built their own light timber-frame (OSB3) boxes. Subsequently, they sealed the joints between different materials and the service penetrations, such as switches, sockets, pipes and light fittings, using sealing tapes, strips and membranes. An interactive 3D model helped them find each critical point in the building envelope and check which solution applies and why.

The trainers assessed both the quality of the sealing and other factors, such as workplace tidiness, teamwork, health and safety and waste management. All eleven students passed the course. They noted that practical work was key to consolidating what they had learnt, and that the online platform with the theory helped them review the content on their own.
