Under the revised Directive, energy performance certificates will need to disclose the life-cycle global warming potential of new buildings over 1,000 m² from January 2028, and of all new buildings from 2030. This covers both operational emissions and embodied carbon from the production of materials, transport, assembly, maintenance and demolition. Carrying out these assessments in a reliable and comparable way is currently difficult. INDICATE LIFE brings together 24 organizations and builds on an earlier pilot project that used life cycle assessment data for 50 case study buildings in Ireland, the Czech Republic and Spain. The project is now extending the approach to Austria, Croatia, Italy, Luxembourg and Hungary.
