The Manufacturers' Information Hub (MIH) has completed a proof-of-concept for a not-for-profit platform designed to standardize and share construction product information. Subject to funding, a small-scale working prototype with early adopters is planned by spring 2027.

The MIH is a not-for-profit, manufacturer-led initiative that seeks to simplify access to construction product information across Europe. By connecting manufacturers’ databases through a standard API, it enables specifiers, contractors and asset owners to access product information in a consistent format, while manufacturers retain ownership and control of their data. The first phase explored the technical feasibility of the concept, including database connectivity and the development of a standard data dictionary.

The platform is also intended to support product safety and environmental compliance and, in future, digital product passports. The project is supported by UK Research and Innovation through its Industrialising and Digitalising Construction Challenge and is backed by major manufacturers and contractors in the UK. After the small-scale prototype, a full-scale prototype is planned for testing during 2027, with initial platform functionality expected in 2028.
