The Lab targets social housing built between 1960 and 1985, typically four- to five-storey apartment blocks with uninsulated masonry walls that leave residents vulnerable to summer overheating and winter discomfort. It tests prefabricated, bio-based insulation systems that can be installed quickly without requiring tenants to relocate. The aim is to reduce heating costs and improve thermal resilience while limiting reliance on energy-intensive systems. Two pilot opportunities are available: a physical demonstration building, where the solution will be installed and monitored, and a simulation pilot for providers with larger portfolios to explore how the approach could be scaled to hundreds of units without additional prototyping costs.
