Based on the 2021 EU Blue Economy report, the coastal tourism sector employed the largest number of people, accounting for 53.6% of the total workforce in the blue economy. This was followed by the living resources sector, which employed 15.1%. The coastal tourism sector also led in value added at factor cost and personnel cost indicators. However, the maritime transport sector was the leader in gross operating surplus and gross investment. For a detailed exploration of all indicators, the European Commission provides a dashboard with various filters to customise data by sub-sector, activity, Member State, indicator, and time period.
