In April 2024, approximately 81.7% of overnight stays in Portuguese tourist accommodations were recorded in hotels and similar establishments. Hotels alone accounted for 62.4% of these stays. The Lisbon metropolitan area and the Algarve were the most popular destinations, attracting over half of all overnight stays (27.6% and 25.4% shares, respectively). When compared to the same period in 2023 and 2019, these regions maintained their popularity among tourists, with total shares of 53.4% and 57.4%, respectively. Detailed data is available in Statistics Portugal’s publicly accessible database, which allows exploration of nights spent by tourists in accommodation establishments across different geographic localizations and type in Portugal.
