In 2021, Bulgaria’s National Statistical Institute reported that total internal tourism consumption (combining inbound and domestic) reached 5.7 billion BGN. The largest contribution came from inbound tourism, accounting for 77.7% of all cash expenditure. Among tourists in Bulgaria, the highest share of consumption expenditures was on accommodation services (35.2%) and food and beverage serving services (31.6%). Meanwhile, Bulgarian citizens spending abroad allocated the most funds to food and beverage serving services (38.7%) and passenger transport services (38.4%).
