The pandemic caused a significant drop in tourism employment in Iceland from 29,989 in 2019 to 21,056 in 2020, but it rebounded to over 31,413 by 2023, according to Statistics Iceland.

According to Statistics Iceland, the official statistics center, the tourism industry in Iceland was significantly impacted by the pandemic. Employment in the sector dropped from an average of 29,989 people in 2019 to 21,056 in 2020. However, by 2023, employment had rebounded to over 31,413 people.
