The latest edition of the Long-Haul Travel Barometer (2/2025), released in June 2025 by the European Travel Commission (ETC) in partnership with Eurail B.V., highlights a decline in interest in long-haul travel to Europe for the summer 2025 season. According to the report, approximately 39% of more than 7,000 surveyed individuals intend to travel to Europe between May and August—representing a 2% decrease compared to the previous year.

Affordability remains the primary barrier for potential travellers, while safety, iconic attractions, and high-quality infrastructure are the top factors influencing destination choices within Europe. The report provides detailed insights into travel motivations, planning behaviours, and attitudes towards responsible tourism among prospective visitors from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea (a newly included market), and the United States. The findings are based on 1,000 interviews conducted in each of these markets in April 2025.
