The Directorate General for Enterprise (Direction Générale des Entreprises, DGE), a department under France’s Ministry for the Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, has launched an online training programme to support local stakeholders and authorities in managing tourist flows.
This one-hour course offers practical tools and methods—based on best practices identified in the field—for addressing tourism-related challenges. It is structured into five concise modules, covering:
- Key definitions, such as “overtourism”, “overcrowding”, and “peak attendance”, along with essential questions to consider
- An overview of the challenges and impacts associated with high tourist numbers
- Concrete examples of strategies and tools for managing visitor flows
- Guidance on prioritising actions in emergency situations
This course is part of a broader initiative to promote environmentally and socially responsible tourism management. It is available free of charge, in French, and can be accessed at any time via the link on the left-hand side of the platform (The original piece available only in French).
