The European Parliament has officially established the Intergroup on the ‘Future of Education and Skills for a Competitive Europe,’ marking a significant step towards addressing the EU’s evolving educational and workforce challenges. This initiative seeks to improve the quality, equity, and inclusiveness of education and training systems across Europe through a holistic approach.
Spearheaded by the Schuman Associates Skills Coalition, the Intergroup has garnered support from nearly 100 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and over 180 organisations representing civil society, education, and industry stakeholders. The Intergroup will tackle pressing issues such as the scarcity of education professionals, the need for upskilling and reskilling in light of digital and green transitions, declining basic competences among learners, and sector-specific skills shortages.
This collaborative platform aims to foster dialogue among policymakers, educators, and industry leaders to develop comprehensive strategies that equip Europeans with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly changing global environment. By prioritising lifelong learning and inclusive education, the Intergroup aspires to contribute to a more resilient and competitive Europe.
