The Policy Brief on Finance and Investment, published in June, 2024, by NetZeroCities, offers policy recommendations from 13 Mission Cities to EU decision-makers and national authorities, focusing on overcoming financial barriers to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.
Key insights include Valladolid’s call for EU policies that attract private investment and involve companies and citizens in climate efforts, Leuven’s efforts to raise an investment fund leveraging European money to support diverse projects, and the Dutch Pilot Cities’ initiative to create District Investment Platforms for natural gas-free districts. The brief highlights challenges such as securing local investment, managing funds for non-revenue-generating projects, and closing the financial gap for projects not meeting the European Investment Bank’s innovation criteria.
