On Tuesday, 14 October 2025, Commissioner Dan Jørgensen, responsible for Energy and Housing, will convene an implementation dialogue on energy efficient product legislation in Brussels, Belgium. The event will bring together a wide range of stakeholders from across the European Union to discuss the effective implementation of legislation that underpins the EU’s energy efficiency and industrial competitiveness goals.

Products falling under the Ecodesign Directive, the Energy Labelling Regulation and the Tyre Labelling Regulation account for around half of all final energy use in the EU. Currently, 30 product groups are regulated under ecodesign, 15 under energy labelling, and tyres for cars, lorries and buses under tyre labelling. These measures form part of the EU’s single market legislation, helping to address market failures, reduce energy consumption, save consumers money, and foster innovation among manufacturers.

The EU energy label remains a key tool for guiding consumers towards more energy-efficient products and encouraging producers to adopt advanced, sustainable technologies. These actions directly contribute to the EU’s energy efficiency target and align with the Clean Industrial Deal and the Affordable Energy Action Plan, both of which aim to lower energy costs and strengthen Europe’s competitiveness, affordability, security and sustainability.

The dialogue will serve to take stock of progress in reducing energy use in appliances and in enhancing the competitiveness of European industry, while identifying barriers and opportunities to accelerate and simplify implementation. Participants will explore concrete suggestions for improving and digitising ecodesign, energy labelling and tyre labelling processes.

Discussions will focus on two main themes:

  • how businesses (manufacturers, suppliers, importers, retailers, etc.) implement the legislation and how consumers benefit;
  • the adequacy and effectiveness of market surveillance, from both industry and consumer perspectives.

The event will gather representatives from industry, enforcement bodies, and consumer groups, ensuring balanced participation from across the EU. A summary of the conclusions and key takeaways will be published following the event.
