Developed with CEN-CENELEC, the standards specify the concrete technical requirements each Digital Product Passport must meet, building on Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 on Ecodesign for Sustainable Products. Six of the eight underpinning standards are already published by national standardisation bodies, with the Commission publishing references to their harmonised parts.

For retailers, the Decision - together with the launch of the DPP Registry - marks the point at which Digital Product Passport compliance moves from a legal principle to a concrete technical specification that suppliers and their own systems will need to meet.
