The European Apparel and Textile Confederation (EURATEX) and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) have launched the EU-India Textile and Apparel Dialogue, a new platform aimed at strengthening cooperation between the European and Indian textile and clothing industries.
The dialogue will support the effective and balanced implementation of the EU-India Free Trade Agreement, while promoting reciprocal market access, stronger value chains, industrial competitiveness and sustainable growth. It will provide a permanent platform for companies and industry associations to exchange information on trade flows, investment, rules of origin and the practical use of the agreement.
The initiative will also focus on identifying practical barriers to trade, including customs delays, regulatory differences and market access challenges. EURATEX and CITI will discuss these issues and may develop joint recommendations for the European Commission and the Government of India.
Sustainability will form another area of cooperation, with the two organisations planning to exchange good practices on circularity, traceability and responsible business conduct. The Dialogue will also encourage industrial cooperation and investment to support more resilient and diversified textile and apparel value chains.
The platform will have an equal number of representatives from EURATEX and CITI, with meetings held twice a year. The chairmanship will rotate annually between the two organisations, and the Dialogue will operate as a consultative, non-binding body.
