On 8 July 2025, the European Commission published its latest report assessing the implementation of Directive 2012/34/EU, which underpins the legal framework for the Single European Railway Area. The report reviews progress made across the EU rail sector, particularly in high-speed services and regulatory transparency. Despite advancements, it identifies ongoing obstacles and emphasises the need for continued enforcement and policy refinement. The findings will inform future initiatives to foster a more integrated and competitive railway system across the Union.
