Afyren received the Circular Chain Award at The Foodies 2026, presented at SIAL Paris on 18 October 2026, for a production model that turns biomass residues into bio-based organic acids used, among other sectors, by the food industry. The company reports an 80% lower carbon footprint compared with petroleum-based alternatives.

The model uses fermentation of biomass residues to produce organic acids, recycles water and valorises manufacturing co-products. Afyren, a B Corp-certified company based in the Auvergne region of France, reports that its plant obtained FSSC 22000 food safety certification.

The Circular Chain category recognises SMEs that prevent food loss and waste while using resources efficiently, for example by valorising by-products, supporting redistribution and innovating in processes and packaging.
