EFSA and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in February 2026, deepening scientific cooperation on food safety. The agreement covers pesticide risk assessment, plant and animal health, nutrition, and emerging areas like novel foods and AI, under a shared One Health approach.

The MoU formalises a broader framework for exchanging scientific data and methodologies between the two organisations, covering pesticide risk assessment, water and soil quality data on contamination risks, and joint work on risk communication and early warning systems.

By pairing EFSA's regulatory science with FAO's global reach, the agreement aims to help countries strengthen food safety governance. It was signed in Rome by EFSA's Nikolaus Kriz and FAO's Máximo Torero.
