The Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission has published a report analysing 631 survey responses and 63 written submissions gathered to inform Food 2040, the EU Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for Food Systems. The consultation shows broad support for continuing the food-systems approach developed under Food 2030, with greater focus on implementation, deployment and uptake. Stakeholders identified several priorities with direct relevance for the agri-food transition, including healthier diets, lower environmental impact, resilience, strategic autonomy, circularity, protein diversification, short supply chains and scaling up innovation. For policymakers and agri-food organisations across the EU, the report offers evidence on shared priorities that may help shape future policy design, research planning and support measures.
