According to a Eurostat article from November 2023, nearly 230 million Europeans aged 15 and over engaged in tourism in 2022, representing 62% of the European Union (EU) population. About 33% of Europeans took at least one domestic trip with an overnight stay, without travelling abroad, while 9% travelled abroad without taking any domestic trips. In 2022, tourism participation ranged from 84% in the Netherlands to 28% in Bulgaria and Romania, compared to 2019 when it ranged from 29% in Romania to 85% in the Netherlands.
