The blueprint for tourism climate action plans by the Travel Foundation, commissioned by NECSTouR and CPMR and released in July 2024, serves as an extensive guide for Mediterranean destination management organizations (DMOs) and regional authorities to develop effective climate action strategies. This document highlights the pressing need for the tourism sector to adapt to climate change and reduce its carbon footprint. It provides a structured, step-by-step method for creating climate action plans, which includes engaging stakeholders, conducting assessments and setting baselines, establishing measurable targets, implementing sustainable practices, monitoring and reporting progress, and building capacity. Additionally, the blueprint features best practices and case studies from various Mediterranean regions, showcasing successful climate action efforts in tourism to inspire and guide DMOs and regional authorities in developing resilient and sustainable tourism destinations.
