In May 2025, the Institute of SETE-INSETE published a study analysing the impact of tourism on the Greek economy in 2023, with comparisons to 2022 and 2019. The report includes data on inbound, domestic, and cruise tourism, as well as transport, investment, and the broader economic effects—both indirect and induced—of tourism activity.
According to the study, tourism directly contributed a record-breaking €28.5 billion to the Greek economy in 2023, accounting for 13% of GDP. This represents a significant increase from €23.9 billion (11.6% of GDP) in 2022 and €23.1 billion (12.6% of GDP) in 2019. The sector remains predominantly export-driven, with 82.7% of tourism revenue generated by inbound visitors.
