As a nutrition company, we are committed to responding to consumers’ demand for healthier and more sustainable food. We have a shared responsibility and we are committed to positively reducing the environmental impact of our food systems, improving people’s health and meeting consumers’ dietary and cultural preferences. Our ambitions are in line with those outlined in the Farm to Fork strategy, as they stress our commitment to play our part in the transition to a sustainable food system. This is why Herbalife Nutrition is a signatory to the Code, by making a number of pledges covering different dimensions of sustainability concerning the EU only, unless stated otherwise.
Commitments by aspirational objectives:
Aspirational objective 1: Healthy, balanced, and sustainable diets for all European consumers, thereby contributing to:
1) Reversing malnutrition and diet-related noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in the EU.
2) Reducing the environmental footprint of food consumption by 2030.
With the following aspirational targets:
a) Improved food consumption patterns in the EU.
b) A food environment that makes it easier to choose healthy and sustainable diets.
Herbalife nutrition commitments:
Continue to make plant-based products available and offer healthy and balanced nutrition options.
Aspirational objective 3: A climate-neutral food chain in Europe by 2050
With the following aspirational target:
Reducing net emissions from own operations, contributing to a 55% GHG emission reduction target in the EU food chain by 2030 (following a science-based approach).
Herbalife nutrition commitments:
Once we've completed our full GHG accounting, which will include Scope 3, we plan to develop interim science-based targets that align with the IPCC goal.
Aspirational objective 4: An optimised circular and resource-efficient food chain in Europe
With the following aspirational targets:
a) Improved resource efficiency within own operations, contributing to sustainable, efficient use and management of energy and natural resources in operations by 2030.
b) Improved sustainability of food and drink packaging, striving for all packaging towards circularity by 2030.
Herbalife nutrition commitments:
Aim for 100% of shipper boxes sourced from our EU warehouse to be obtained from responsibly managed sources by 2025 (FSC, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification PEFC, Sustainable Forestry Initiative SFI or equivalent).
Aim to significantly reduce paper use across the EU distribution/logistics function by 2025 by eliminating printed documents (where possible) including NTS, Packing Lists, Transport Waybills, and VAT Invoices, instead providing digital solutions.
We aim to continue to reduce the use of virgin plastic across our supply chain, including eliminating 45 metric tonnes by 2025 through initiatives such as:
1) Switching to 100% recycled plastic in our product distribution packaging (air fills).
2) Eliminating virgin plastic scoops from across 15 powdered product SKUs.
Aspirational objective 7: Sustainable sourcing in food supply chains
With the following aspirational targets:
a) Transformed commodity supply chains that do not contribute to deforestation, forest degradation, and destruction of natural habitat and which preserve and protect high-value ecosystems and biodiversity.
b) Improved social performance in (global) food supply chains.
Herbalife nutrition commitments:
Aim for 100% of paper-based packaging for nutrition products produced in the EU to be sourced from responsibly managed sources by 2025 (FSC, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification PEFC, Sustainable Forestry Initiative SFI, or equivalent).
