The photo presents a cable car or gondola suspended on overhead wires against a blue sky, suggesting mountain transport, tourism, or urban aerial transit.

The Südtirol Guest Pass, a digital guest card that gives visitors free use of regional public transport, won the European Commission’s Mobility Action Award for integrating sustainable mobility into the tourism offer. It is included in the price of participating accommodation, so visitors receive it before they arrive.

The pass gives guests access, from the day of arrival, to regional trains, regional and city buses and selected cable cars, among them the Ritten, Kohlern, Mölten and Vöran cable cars and the Mendel funicular, on a single ticket. Visitors validate a QR code on their phone before each trip, and depending on the holiday region the card also includes guided hikes, cultural visits, entrance fees or discounts. It does not cover long-distance trains, the carriage of bicycles and pets, or some tourist bus operators, and it cannot be bought separately, so only guests of participating accommodation can use it.

The Commission recognised the project in its Mobility Action Awards, and the destination’s website says it was chosen from 960 submissions, praising the approach of building mobility directly into the tourism product. The pass makes car-free travel the default choice for visitors rather than an extra they must seek out, which is relevant for Alpine destinations dealing with congestion.
